Being a Newly-wed
Since I got married, numerous amount of people have asked me,
“How does it feel to be married? “
The standard answer that I give is, “So far, so good!”
I have yet to follow that with any lengthy elaboration about what it feels like being a newly-wed. I suppose it is because at those times, I needed more time to explore and at other times, there simply wasn’t much time to stay and chat.
I’ve had time to think about this question and I thought that I’ll share my thoughts here.
Being a newly-wed is wonderful!
With the abundance of endless love, there’s so much to look forward to, hope and dreams, love and intimacy, fun and endearing moments. At this stage, everything is possible and the future together looks bright and optimistic.
This is the year of a whole lots of ‘1st’ experiences that we will enjoy together. Our 1st family dinner/function with my relatives, our 1st festive holidays as husband and wife, our 1st couple purchase, our 1st this and that (you get the picture). I’m intrigue and loving every moment of it. I love that we disagree and compromise to find common ground, I love that we bicker at the smallest of things and then laugh about the silliness of it all. And most of all, I love the fact that many things are still the same as before we were married and yet, there are many things that are new.
We’re at the stage where we are discovering what the institution of marriage is all about. This is the time where I learn to live with my husband, to share, to adapt, to trust, to compliment and to lay down the foundation of our marriage together. I believe that the fundamentals are the building blocks to success! It is with this principle in mind that I feel the great need to communicate across to my spouse about my thoughts, feelings, expectations and desires (this should be done both ways). I find that this is important because it gives both parties an insight and understanding of the other person from the very beginning of the marriage.
We’ve only been married for 27 days (and counting) and at this point in our marriage, I’m very much in love and thankful for everything. So far… this life that I’ve chosen is only getting better by the day =)
